Fuji 16mm 1.4 Lens: A Landscape & Macro Photographer’s Dream

The Fujinon XF16mmF1.4 R WR is a weather-resistant tank of a lens.

This fast wide-angle lens is commonly used in:

  • Landscape photography

  • Cityscapes

  • Macro Photography

  • Long Exposure

I personally bought this lens because I was curious to see what my street photography would like, with a wide-angle lens. I know it’s not what it’s built for, but for that exact reason, I thought it could be interesting

The Fuji 16mm 1.4 review

The 16mm lens is a 24mm equivalent, and it’s not Fuji’s only wide-angle lens, but I do think it’s their best. It’s a prime lens, it’s weather-sealed and it has an aperture of 1.4.

This lens can focus up really close at 15cm, which means you can do some really creative macro and close-up photography.

The 16mm 1.4 Vs. 16mm 2.8

When I choose my wide-angle lens, and when I choose any Fuji lens, I always go for prime lenses and as fast of an aperture as possible. I did that when I bought the Fuji 56mm 1.2 and the 33mm 1.4 as well.

Of course, you pay for the 1.4 aperture, but it’s crucial to me I like to do street photography at night and take pictures in the rain and that’s why I picked the 1.4 over the Fuji XF16mmF1.4 R WR.

I can’t tell if this lens is the right one for you, but I can tell from my personal experience, it’s a really interesting lens if you do macro, close-up, nature or landscape photography.
