My photography gear

Gear I use and recommend.
My favorite photography books, courses, and accessories.

This is my main camera for video. My workhorse if you will. The camera I’m using now to film my first documentary.

It’s Fujifilm’s flagship model and to date my favorite camera for videography.

My two favorite cameras for street photography. The X100V is for people who want to keep it simple and don’t need different lenses. The Fuji X-T5 is for photographers who need the option to change lenses. Both are exceptional.

For portrait sessions, the 56mm 1.2 is my go-to. For street photography and documenting Muay Thai, I use the trusty new and fast Fujinon 33mm 1.4.

I’ve bought plenty of photography bags, but the quick-access, lightweight Peak Design V2 bag is my current favorite.

This bag is great value for money versus other photo bags.

It took me a while to discover the Samsung T7. I edit all my videos on this super small, yet incredibly fast external drive. Hands down the best value for money and much more convenient than the Lacie’s.

I know. The pricy Peak Design Tripod. But it’s the best tripod for travelling. I even use it in studio settings too. I got the carbon fibre, but they have a cheaper aluminium too.

There’s no better compact light than this little gem - The Aputure CM Pro. This should be in every creatives backpack. Honestly, I had to get it when I saw it because who doesn’t like photography gadgets?

Photography accessories

Don’t be the guy who buys an expensive camera and combines it with a poor SD that prevents your camera from operating at the level it’s made to do. I’m talking from experience.

This is the brand-new Rode Wireless Pro. I use this for recording all outside audio recordings to avoid spending time post-syncing it all. This setup has saved me so much time.

This is my key light the Aputure LS COB 300D II. It’s such an ease working with and connects with my other Aputure lights. I can highly recommend this key light.

Studio gear

The Atomos Ninja+ is the recorder I film within my studio. It’s connected to the Fuji X-H2S. Besides being able to see myself when filming, this recording also gives me more flexibility with my color grading.

The now iconic podcasting and studio microphone that everyone seems to be using these days. I use this combined with the Cloudlifter CL-1 as my amplifier. For field recordings, I use the Rode NTG

3 great Photography courses

How much $ have you spent on gear versus educational material these past years?
I’m not judging. I’m guilty too. Here are three of my favorite online photography courses.

Alec Soth is a legendary photographer and together with Magnum Photos, he has developed a 5-hour photography course on the art of photography. Do yourself a favor and study this class.

If you’re into street photography this class is a must-see. You get 5 hours of material with one of the most iconic and accomplished photographers alive, in Joel Meyerowitz.

Another iconic photographer, Steve McCurry - famously known for his portraits of the green-eyed ‘Afghan girl’. In his class, he teaches how he has developed his style and shooting technique.

GoPro

I’ve used the newest GoPro for my POV photography for the past 5 years and will continue to do so until I see DJI coming out with a better action cam. This camera has powered my youtube channel since day 1.

Video gear

I use the Fujinon XF10-24mmF4 (OIS) with optical image stabilization for vlogging videos, or actually for any video I’m doing that doesn’t include a tripod. I use this because of the wide angle and the stabilization. See also my list of favorite Fuji lenses and cameras.

I’ve never been a bit gimbal fan. They’ve always been too big and too clunky. But that’s not the case anymore. DJI has managed to build a mini version of their popular gimbal. Compact, affordable, and lightweight.
